The Samsquanches have officially signed free agent goaltender Ty Banks to a two year contract today. After having talks with Banks for few weeks, Banks agreed to the deal. The 15 year old prospect played last season with the Saskatoon Maniacs, posting a 4.36 GAA and a .903 SV% in 15 games. Although his numbers don't look all that impressive, management says there is something the stats don't say.
"Eshelby posted a 4.27 GAA and a.908 SV% in 14 games when he was with the Maniacs 2 years ago. Stats don't tell all. If you look at the way these two guys play, you can easily tell it wasn't all their fault. Banks' greatest attributes are his size and compete level. Eshelby's are his movement, speed and compete level. Two different style goaltenders for the most part. Eshelby and Banks both utilize their compete level to their advantage, which is what the team needs. I'd rather have a goalie who competes hard over a goalie who has the skill, but puts in no effort. We are proud to have him in our organization"
Banks is expected to suit up for a few games this season for Sunnyvale. He also told reporters he will be wearing #31.
